Review iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum with Wi-Fi Connectivity
The suction is excellent in this product. It is brought by “Aeroforce,” which delivers a whole new sense to the term light as air. But don’t be fooled by its compact size, the force packs a punch and has 10x the power of a normal vacuum. It also has a new censoring system called “VSLAM” that allows the machine to sense and avoid obstacles in its way and move around them. It delivers true efficiency in creating a cleaning path to follow and even senses when its going over carpet and sets itself to full power to bring the utmost clean to your home. Now let’s move on to its wireless capabilities.
The Roomba has an app that can be installed on any smartphone device to start and stop from virtually anywhere. Finally one less thing to worry about when your away from home or too swamped with work and the kids to turn on a vacuum. The app even allows scheduling capability so you can automatically set it to perform at a given time up to seven times a week. It even notifies you of the battery percentage. Speaking of the battery, it uses 4 AA’s, so forget the huge bulky C’s or even D’s from the older models. The best part is the machine comes with a rechargeable set and a charging port that the Roomba automatically knows to return to when it’s low on juice. Finally it includes two wall barriers so the Roomba knows its limits and exactly what area needs to be taken care.
For all the capabilities the machine has, there are a couple setbacks. One being that the warranty is a lot shorter than many other vacuums of its time. It stands at a short 1 year while others compete at least the 3-year mark. The other two issues mentioned have been the noise and return. The noise is not incredibly obnoxious but loud enough that if your on the phone it may have to be paused or sent back to its station. Also some consumers had trouble with sending it back to its station and making It directly without getting lost. The battery life is only 2 hours with falls a bit short with its competition.
Overall for the price of $899 (March 2018) compared to its counterparts, the reviews have all pointed to a high standard of excellence. Although there is still room for improvement of course, but the people have spoken, and this product shines with flying colors.
