House Cleaning Tips

  • Concentrate on One Task at a Time

It’s much easier to focus on one particular cleaning task – vacuuming, washing or mopping – for every section in the house than cleaning each room at a time. The latter is time consuming, stressful and it will suck-up your resolve.

  • Start from Top to Bottom

In whichever area of the house you choose to tackle first, always start from the top and end at the bottom, so that dirt and dust from higher surfaces will fall on lower uncleaned surfaces. Clear the ceiling and walls of cobwebs, clean the fans, dust surfaces, then clean the floors as the last step.

  • Declutter the Rooms

Declutter each room in the house, from magazines, toys, documents to papers lying around the house. A simple rule is to sort through the clutter and dispose of the ones that have no use. But if you are a hurry, pile them up into a basket and out of sight for sorting later on.

  • Dust and Vacuum

Starting from top to bottom,

  • Dust all wooden and metal furnishings. Your priority should be on the surfaces, underside of shelves, picture frames and electric appliances. If you have fans and blinds, dust and clean them first
  • Use an upholstery attachment for vacuuming upholstered furniture
  • For areas like the top shelf and ceiling that are hard to reach, attach a microfiber material to a mop-stick or broom for easy cleaning
  • Vacuuming the floors and carpets should be the last after cleaning the whole house
  • Disinfect Countertops and surface areas
  • Clear the kitchen counters and load all dirty dishes into the dishwasher. The beauty of a dishwasher is that it can also be used to wash toys. Those dirty toys lying around the house, toss them also into the dishwasher.
  • Soak a sponge in hot water and squeeze to wipe down all hard surfaces, kitchen counters, microwave and countertops to remove dirt and tough stains
  • Disinfect every surfaces using a mixture of water and vinegar

  • Focus on Tubs, Sinks and Toilets

Apply cleaning solution on the kitchen sink, and the bathroom sink, tub and toilet. After some few minutes, return to the kitchen to scrub and rinse the sink, leaving the toilet for last.

  • Vacuum and Mop

Forget about sweeping, vacuum hard floors instead. After vacuuming, you can mop the rooms with Steam mops or Hardwood Floor Cleaners, they clean hard surfaces much faster than the conventional mops.

House Cleaning Secrets

  • Use coffee filter to dust: A coffee filter works much better than microfiber material in dusting TV or PC screens, leaving it lint-free
  • Use Aluminum Foil to Scrub Off Baked-On Food
  • Dust-Free Cleaning: You can easily use an old pillowcase to clear the dirt and dust from your ceiling fan. All you have to do is slide the pillowcase on each blade, back and forth. The dirt will just stick to the pillowcase instead of falling to the floor.
  • Unclogging Drain: Your drain moving slower than normal, then there must be something obstructing it. Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar and another 1/2 cup of baking soda into it, cover for 5 minutes and flush with steaming hot water, and you are done.
  • Getting rid of stains from Use a Cutting Boards: Finding it hard to remove stains from cutting boards? Just slice a lemon in half, squeeze the juice on the stained surface, rub and chill for 20 minutes then rinse. It works magic.
  • Get tile floors looking like new again: You need your floors to look like new? After vacuuming the floor, add some light detergent to a bucket of water, get a rag and start scrubbing. Periodically clean the rag and change the water to make sure you aren’t just pushing more dirt around on the floor.
  • Use a Rubber Glove to Pick Up Furs: You can easily use a damp rubber glove to pick up furs from your upholstery. Just run the glove over the surfaces and the hairs will cling to your glove.
